Anker 10 Port USB Hub – AK-68ANHUB-B10A

The best 10 port USB hub available?

One might ask what they would do with a 10 port USB hub, but the possibilities are nearly endless*.

Product Number: AK-68ANHUB-B10A
Amazon Link: http://amzn.to/2dMDy8O
Length: 14.5cm
Length (USB and power ports included): 18.5cm
Short Product Description: [Upgraded Version] Anker USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 10-Port Hub Including a BC 1.2 Charging Port with 60W (12V / 5A) Power Adapter [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset and updated Firmware 9081] AH231
Tested Operating Systems: Windows 10 Anniversary Edition; Windows 8.1; Linux Fedora 23 (kernel 4.7.2-101.fc23.x86_64)

The provided power supply will work with 110V/60Hz or 240V/50Hz. The added flexibility of the power supply made it an easy choice for purchasing a high-end USB hub for use in Australia (or any country worldwide for that matter).
It will take a figure of 8 IEC-C7 cable as input.

The hub has functioned well under Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Fedora 23. My main concern was how the IOGear GUS434 would function in the middle, however it appears to have worked flawlessly. Switching between sources is handled well by both the Anker and IOGear.

The user manual states: When disconnected from a USB cable, or when the computer is in sleep mode or powered off:

    • Data Ports will not charge.
The 10th port delivers full speed charges of up to 2A to all USB-enabled devices.

*To be fair, the possibilities end at around 9 USB devices and one quick-charge port.

Sorry I left my banana in the kitchen.

Installing Teamspeak 3 on CentOS 7.2

Getting Started

So you’ve just installed a new CentOS server and want to get teamspeak running. There are a few steps to setting up a reliable service for your friends or clan.

Setup, Download and Install

Firstly ssh into your server:
ssh user@server

Create a user to run the server:
Separate the running processes so that if teamspeak becomes exploited you will not have a fully exposed system.

sudo useradd teamspeak

Download the source as that user:
You’ll want to grab the download link from the teamspeak downloads page.

sudo su - teamspeak
wget "http://dl.4players.de/ts/releases/3.0.12/teamspeak3-server_linux_amd64-3.0.12.tar.bz2"
tar -jxvf teamspeak3-server_linux_amd64-3.0.12.tar.bz2
mv teamspeak3-server_linux-amd64 teamspeak3-server

Run the start command and you will get some administration details for when you connect:

[teamspeak@tiny ~]$ /home/teamspeak/teamspeak3-server/ts3server_startscript.sh start

------------------------------------------------------------------
I M P O R T A N T
------------------------------------------------------------------
Server Query Admin Account created
loginname= "serveradmin", password= "zeeS2ooh"
------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------
I M P O R T A N T
------------------------------------------------------------------
ServerAdmin privilege key created, please use it to gain
serveradmin rights for your virtualserver. please
also check the doc/privilegekey_guide.txt for details.

token=cf6d8ff0ea29eb03c92eb161709d7c2bcf6d8ff
------------------------------------------------------------------

Networking and Firewall

Forward the relevant ports to your server and away you go.

9987 UDP
10011 TCP
30033 TCP

Since the firewall is enabled by default you will need to run some commands to unblock them.
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=10011/tcp --add-port=30033/tcp --add-port=9987/udp
sudo systemctl restart firewall-cmd

Bonuses:

Add a cronjob, with crontab -e, to start the teamspeak server on reboot:
@reboot /home/teamspeak/teamspeak3-server/ts3server_startscript.sh start

Important Notes:

Make sure to select the correct architecture and server release.
32bit = Server x86
64bit = Server amd64

Example of a 64bit kernel:
[teamspeak@tiny ~]$ uname -r
3.10.0-327.4.5.el7.x86_64

If you ran the install with a minimal ISO you will need a few packages before you start:
sudo yum install bzip2 wget

SDA Manual Install – IBM Tivoli Monitoring

Manually Installing Self-Describing Agent features with ITM6.2.3 upwards:

There is a little-known script for manually installing SDA (Self-Describing Agent) support. I’ve had limited success getting this to work with the ITCAM for Transactions: Internet Service Monitoring agent, but I suspect it is related to the java components installed on the TEPS (Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server) and the tep.jnlp includes.

This should be useful for installing support for newer agents if you are restricted in upgrading the OS agent (LZ,NT,UX) or additional agent (E.G: RZ, UD, IS, etc) to a version which supports SDA and can’t restart the production systems.

An example: If you’ve got the KRZMSMAN.txt and KRZJSTMS.jar, KRZJSTPS.jar, KRZJSTPW.jar in /home/itmuser/.
The valid options for -t are tms, tpw and tps.

installsdsupport.sh -i /opt/IBM/ITM/ -d /home/itmuser/ -p rz -t tms

An extra command may be required to refresh the catalog:

I had to refresh the catalog on the HTEMS (HUB) and RTEMS (REMOTE) to get them to pick up the new attribute/catalog files without a TEMS (Tivoli Monitoring Enterprise Server) restart.

/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/tacmd RefreshCatalog -s RTEMS_NAME
/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/tacmd RefreshCatalog -s HTEMS_NAME

Figuring out if your agent supports SDA:

This page can be used to help figure outif your agent supports SDA easily.

Please post a comment if you manage to get this to work or it helps you out.

Keyboard heaven

Typing on clouds, although I feel like I am stumbling through learning the key layout. Sometimes I regret making decisions like getting blank keycaps.
I printed out the keyboard layout, and when I do use the function keys it is amazing not having to move anywhere, but going back to a regular keyboard feels odd.
Can’t do the switch too often until I learn the HHKB layout. Caps lock is now control, no regular control. No windows key. All very strange. I feel the switch to dvorak will end me.

I will admit that the topre keys actually feel amazing compared to any of my cherries (brown, blue, red, black) and well better than older alps. Haven’t typed on a buckling spring for years, but I will imagine that they are inferior until proven wrong.

Galaxy S2 Power Saving mode issue

After the power saving mode on my phone was ‘always on’ I got a little bit annoyed. After turning my my dear friend Google, I soon discovered it was quite an issue.

I’ve just flashed my kernel with odin and updated with the instructions at the following link: http://db.communityrelease.com/release_display.asp?ReleaseID=593

It looks like the power issue has been fixed and it is sufficiently rooted. Thanks Darky.

Edit: After some testing it still has the issues. I think I might just go back to the Samsung firmware rooted.

Server Migration

Over the last few months I have migrated servers twice. I went from my aging x346 to a HP DL-585g1 and then I have moved to a HP Microserver (HP Micro G7 N36L).

It was strange moving from a 2RU, then to a 4RU and then to a small form factor server. I went from dual 3.0ghz Xeons (4GB of RAM), to quad dual core 2.6 opterons (32GB of RAM) to a dual core 1.2ghz amd cpu (4GB of RAM).

Moving all my data across has become quite painful (downgrading from 7.2TB to 5.4TB is never an easy process). The other services were relatively straight forward.

However, I’m sure the environment is thanking me in its own special way.

Samey

Oh the roller-coaster of life. It isn’t at all samey, but it was starting to feel like that last week when I started writing the title of this page.

I honestly think I must be the most obnoxious person ever. If not obnoxious then at least creepy. Not regular special guy who sometimes talks to you creepy, like stalker, shrine, dreams, whackjob, saliva, constant annoyance creepy. Maybe I’m not. I could just be asking the wrong(right) girls out on dates. I have had a philosophy that I would only be interested in girls that were interesting (funnily enough). It totally doesn’t work as nice girls are not in abundance.

I got my second ‘das keyboard’ delivered today. It is just as awesome as my first one. The cherry MX browns are so silent by comparison. I feel like I am working up some sort of type-writer when I bash at my blues. I opted for the silent version so that I could use it in an office environment without sending my co-workers as loopy as I am. Hopefully some of the HR chicks are in awe of my 31337 skills of not having labels on my keys.

I am super excited that it is the weekend. I thought that I might have a date, but it turns out I am even more special than I could have ever imagined. I wish there was some mandatory government law that you couldn’t be single and you had to at least go on a few dates. A bit like the dole for girls…

My xbox360 conversion is coming along nicely. I’ve got it all put in a G5 PPC case, I’ve got it secured nicely using the G5’s power supply. It is all hooked up (no DVD drive sadly). It is also not sad that I have no DVD drive because they are useless. I bought a sheet of aluminium down at aussie junk for $5 and I’ve been using it to craft an air baffle for the CPU/GPU. I just need to secure that down. I suspect a few pop rivets and a screw will sufficiently hold it down.

I think I have finally lost the plot and I am going to buy a house. Fsck getting a GF, if one of them actually wants to go out with me I’m sure they will ask.

2011 Updates

I haven’t had the pleasure of typing on my keyboard for a while. It is fantastic.

I went to a scout camp in Wollongong 2 weeks ago. It was great on Mount Kira with a bunch of rovers and lovely fun in the sun. I came out of it with a bit of sunburn on my shoulders/back and my scalp. It was awesome to get outside in the fresh air and enjoy some healthy physical activity.

Last weekend I went to Sydney for an anime flash-mob that failed epically. It wasn’t well organised or syncronised. The entire event lacked dispersion of members amongst the city; It was a pile of cosplayers running around making a mess.
The second half of the weekend exponentially more enjoyable with a LAN at Bevans. I’ll have to convert a backpack with some velco/straps to carry a computer/monitor around the place, or I’ll just keep driving my champagne chariot around places.

The girl front is possibly worse than before, although it hasn’t changed at all. I don’t think there has been a worthwhile girl to chase in a while. I would like to think that I am not entirely the worst person around.

I got a new motorbike. A 2008 GSX650F. It apparently makes a 3.7 second 0-100km/h, but I very much doubt I could pull off such a speedy takeoff. I’ve got to take it in for the 5000k service. I’m not sure if I’m optimistic that they will return my electronic query, or if I am the best procrastinator in the world.

Work has been OK. I’ve been starting on AIX. I haven’t started with Solaris yet, but it will be soon. Dispatching is still shit; Hopefully they recruit a masochist to take on the role and rid me of the suffering. People are leaving like rats abandoning a sinking ship and the guys who remain just haven’t found a bit of driftwood yet.

I haven’t had a chance to draw up any new web comics. I’ve written out a bunch (probably lost somewhere under my stacks of junk) and need to photoshop or gimp (how appropriate) them up.

Goddamn I love Metallica!

Das Keyboard

I bought a new keyboard just recently. I spilled cranberry juice in my G15 (first gen). It is mechanical and fantastic. It feels like I am typing on clouds and robots from the future. I’ve been futilely re-learning touch typing. I was previously much worse at it. I’m going to buy one for work too. As they say; If you’re going to be doing something for 8 hours it may as well be comfortable.

When playing games, generally pressing ‘i’ to access the inventory, is painful and requires a few jabs at the keys. I’m getting used to it, but the pressing to capitalise letters on the left side of the board is a difficult habit to break.
I’m also thinking about switching to the vi mode for bash. Oh the difficulties involved in being a team player.

On a negative note, all other keyboards feel like I’m typing on a pile of rubbish.
I could switch to dvorak. Although that would mean even skilled qwerty users would fail under the extreme stress of having to use my keyboard! EXTREME! I think that is the main reason for having a keyboard like this. It is either elite to use it, or it is noob to not be able to use it. I’m not sure.
